Minutes

Minutes of General membership meeting dated January 14, 2008.

I. Meeting called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Co-Vice President Pat Strickling.

In attendance: Anneke DiSpigno, Kathy Dooley, Maggie Jurges, Valerie Lyon-Parker, Lori Morrow, Melanie Ottley, Kelly Pederson, Mikaela Pederson, Anita Rasset, Shevaun Rudkin-Clark, Pat Strickling and Kenneth Vedra.
Kathy Dooley motioned to accept minutes from December meeting. Shevaun Rudkin-Clark 2nd the motion. All were in favor.

II. Treasurer's Report
Opening Balance was $29,788.14
Income of 136.11
Expenses of 12,721.60
Ending balance $17,202.65

III. Unfinished Business:

a. Parent Advisory Committee: Valerie Lyon-Parker reports from December meeting: Mark Dalton from Food Services talked about the school food program. School currently collecting food scrapes/milk cartons for recycling efforts to benefit the "Food for Flowers" program. January meeting: Presentation of school budget. Sue Thomas Director of Special Education spoke to services provided to all of Whatcom County for ages Pre-K to 21 years. Highly Capable Learners program discussed. Thank you Valerie!

b. SMS Directories. Directories mailed to all PTSA members in December and will also be available in the school main office for $3.00 each. Thank you Heather Whalen.

c. School Dance in January was a success. All enjoyed music and refreshments. A big thanks to SMS staff and all who volunteered to make this a safe and enjoyable event.

IV. New Business:


a. Dr. Vedra Superintendent for the Bellingham School District address:

• Operations and Technology Levy will be up for replacement on the March 11th ballot. The operations levy accounts for about 20% of the district's budget. Please remember to vote!
• Pat Strickling motioned to donate $99.00 to the Citizen Advisory Committee for support of the levy. Shevaun Rudkin-Clark 2nd the motion. All were in favor.

b. Science Trip being organized by Doug Robinson which will be a three day trip to Vancouver B.C. with estimated cost of $420.00 per student plus price of meals. Mr. Robinson to report back regarding details of trip and costs.

c. Vision, Hearing & Scoliosis screening scheduled for January 22nd. Volunteers are still needed.

V. Meeting adjourned at 8:55 P.M. Next meeting February 11, 2008.
