Principal’s report – Andy Mark
SMS Band needs to fundraise.
The budget for the new school is limited even though furniture etc.. needs to be purchase.
Sports uniforms are in short supply, especially football, and if new school colors are chosen, they’ll all need to be replaced!
Could PTSA budget change for the 08/09 school year to meet some of these needs?

Old Business - Parent Advisory Council - Valarie Lyons-Parker reporting

New Business

Special Ed request – Janet Woodworth on Read Naturally

Powerpoint presentation explained how Read Naturally works.
If purchased the program would be available in all classrooms, not just Special Ed. Therefore, the program could benefit all students reading at level 5 or below (Levels are based on grades). Last year 40% of Shuksan 6th graders were reading below standard.
Special Ed already has $1120-, their entire building budget monies for the year, earmarked for Read Naturally. Asking Shuksan PTSA for the remaining $1771- needed to purchase this program.
Special Ed’s needs have increased and their funding has been cut.
Shuksan PTSA does not have a budget line for Special Ed. Julia Parker will look over the line items, and the board will let the Special Ed teachers know if PTSA can support them.
